7 years in prison for wounding brother

Ernie Williams, 27, a farmer from Ginger Hill district, St Elizabeth, will spend seven years in prison for wounding his older brother Ranny.

Ranny outlined in the St Elizabeth Circuit Court on Friday, that on September 11, 2007, he went to his mother's house to seek compensation for damage, done by his younger brother, to his motor car, van and shop.

A policeman went with him, but they did not see his brother. Ranny returned later without the police, and this time he saw him. He said when he confronted his brother about being compensated, he was asked if he wanted another chop.

Ranny said his brother had chopped him a few days earlier. He said he turned to walk away but felt a stab from behind in his hand. He was stabbed two more times and he fell to the ground.

He said he got up and ran about a short distance and started calling for help. Neighbours wrapped him in a towel and took him to the Black River Hospital, where he was admitted and later transferred to the Mandeville Hospital.

Justice D.O. McIntosh told the accused that there was no justification for what he did.
