Women 'walked out' at Sexy in Black

Sexy in Black, held at the Sky Bar, 7 Half-Way Tree Road, on Saturday night, was like a highly fashionable dancehall session.

Patrons were well-dressed and came out to have a good time. The party, which started out with a mellow vibe, ended in a wild frenzy. At first, it seemed the party was lacking in 'vibes' due to the long and drawn-out style of the selector on the Silver Bullet sound system, Johnny Blacks.

When THE STAR team arrived at 11:50 p.m., the party was in the 'early bounce' phase. Silver Bullet was playing songs like Hot Stuff by Donna Summer and Night Fever by the Bee Gees. As Blacks took his time in 'rinsing out' the disco tunes, patrons slowly entered the venue, hanging out at the bar and having a mellow time.

Change of vibes

However, the 'vibes' were about to change as Blacks started playing some '90s R&B soul songs like Same Script, Different Cast by Whitney Houston and Deborah Cox and Crazy by K-Ci and Jo-Jo. Then, songs like Dun Wife by Cobra had a few women going wild, 'walking out' on the dance floor and beating their chests.

The session really got into full swing by 2 a.m. when more patrons streamed in, and by 2:30 a.m., the venue was packed.

By this time, patrons had become bored with Blacks' selecting style. Posing with her partner, one patron said his vibe was keeping her from 'brukking out' and she needed to hear some 'daggering' songs to dance with her man.

It was obvious that the patrons wanted to party, and when DarkCide International took over the turntables, the session instantly went into a frenzy. The selector's attitude showed that they came to please and the crowd endorsed the idea of less talk and more music.

With retro songs like Good - - a Dweet by Mr Lex and Man A Di Least by Lady Saw, the video man who had been idle all night got busy as the ladies took to the centre of the dance floor. This segment was dubbed 'walk-out time' and it remained that way until THE STAR left the venue at 4:30 a.m. Even then, patrons were still in sync, dancing to Elephant Man's Nuh Linga and Sweep.

This female patron stole the spotlight at 'Sexy in Black' held at the Sky Bar, 7 Half-Way Tree Road, last Saturday.
