Competition heats up on 'All Together Sing'

Rusea's High.

TVJ's 'All Together Sing' competition is down to the wire with only three choirs left vying for the top position.

Of these three choirs, one will take home the All Together Sing trophy and more than a million dollars in cash and prizes.

In Sunday's sing off, the choirs that performed were Albert Town High, Rusea's High and Mona High. The judges this week were Dennis Rushton, Michael Sean Harris and Lileth Sewell.

Sunday's performance show also had some high and low points as it was with mixed feelings that two-time-champions Oberlin High were eliminated.

Rushton expressed his feelings on Oberlin's elimination. "The competition is all together sad since Oberlin High will not be in the finals. I am going to miss them," he said.

However, he was in for a pleasant surprise as the remaining choirs, which performed two songs each, brought the house down. The first selection was a song never performed before on All Together Sing and the second selection, the judges' favourite.

The first choir to perform, Albert Town, sang Survivor Medley. Sewell, in her review, said the choir performed well, the rhythmic changes of the songs were good and the three lead singers "sounded awesome". For his part, Rushton said, "you girls really rock." For Harris, the choir sounded great and the energy and projection were good.

Giants

Albert Town High.

In their second performance, Albert Town sang the judges' favourite, Giants. For Sewell, it was good to see a choir without lead singers, she also liked the fact that the entire choir took part in the song giving a very "black, gusty, gospel sound." Rushton said the balance in the song was perfect, the harmonies were awesome and Albert Town would always be the giants of the All Together Sing competition. Harris' only comment was, "mi love unu from long time."

When Rusea's High touched the stage it was the 'queen' (the lead singer) who delivered. Performing a song titled Song for the Children, Rusea's got mixed reviews. Rushton said he enjoyed the song totally. Harris said "some parts were very very good and some parts were very very bad," while Sewell said the performance had a very creative arrangement, however she would have wanted more participation from the entire choir.

Creative vibe

Mona High.

Mona High, the school with the 'creative vibe', performed a Bob Marley medley for their first selection. Harris said, "wow, very nice. The band was awesome but ladies you need to give more energy."

Sewell, in her review, said the performance was a good one and the band had played so well that she was inviting them to play at her wedding. Rushton was more pleased with how the choir responded to their choir director. "She is excellent," he said.

When Mona High did their second selection, they performed Still Have Joy which was the judges' pick. Rushton said "that was like a plate of sweet and sour chicken." Sewell said "it was like you explored the dynamics of the song and this was well executed." Harris said, "I love the blend; I would have liked a little more energy though."
