ORANJESTAD, Aruba (CMC)
Jamaica's footballers completed the line-up of Caribbean Zone Under-20 final-round teams with a facile conquest of the Group H play-offs this past weekend.
The Jamaicans were unchallenged as they pumped in eight goals while dismissing hosts Aruba and Antigua and Barbuda to finalise the four-team list for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) finals in January.
Dever Orgill was the scoring ace for the young Reggae Boyz on the trip.
He netted a first-half goal for the Jamaicans en route to a 4-1 victory over Antigua and Barbuda last Thursday, and then hit all four goals in a 4-0 whipping of Aruba on Saturday.
The victories placed Jamaica atop the Group H series with maximum six points and advanced them to January's final round with St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
SVG (Group G) and the Dominican Republic (Group F) won their respective groups while Haiti, from Group F, advanced as the best runner-up from the three second-round groups.
The winners from the CFU final round will earn an automatic berth to the CONCACAF Under-20 finals in Trinidad and Tobago in March 2009, along with the hosts, Canada, Mexico, the United States, Costa Rica and El Salvador.
The final place in the eight-team CONCACAF U-20 Finals will be determined in a play-off between Honduras and the Caribbean runners-up.
Four teams will qualify from for the CONCACAF U20 play-offs in March to the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt from September 25 to October 16, 2009.
