'My fruit is taking long to ripe'

Dear Pastor,

I just want to congratulate you on the job you have been doing over the years. I have been reading your column for the last three years, and I believe you give the best advice.

I would like some counselling from you. I am 20 years old. I recently graduated from college and have yet to find a job. I have been looking for one since early this year and no luck so far. I feel worthless, because all my friends who started to look for a job after me have been successful. Maybe I'm being jealous, but I want to know why "my fruit is taking so long to ripe".

This puts a damper on me and I am beginning to become depressed. I know they say 'patience is a virtue' and 'good things come to those who wait', but I can't help feeling the way I do.

K.M., St James, Jamaica

Dear K.M.,

Some people are fortunate to get jobs immediately after graduating from university, others take a longer time. Nothing is wrong with you. Hang in there, so to speak. Keep looking while you pray and ask God to help you find a job. The job you get must be meaningful. I promise you that I will remember you in my prayers.

Pastor
