Is my partner at risk?

Dear Pastor,

The lips of my vagina became swollen a few months ago, and I went to see a gynaecologist, who told me it was probably an infection. What type of infection do you think I have? Also, I looked up my symptom and it matches very closely to the thrush infection. Is it curable and what is it really? Could I have contracted this infection from having sex, and is my partner at risk of contracting it?

L.D., USVI

Dear L.D.,

I am not a medical doctor. I am a psychologist. The questions that you posed to me should be discussed with a medical practitioner. You saw a gynaecologist recently, you should have asked him/her these questions. May I suggest that you pay the doctor another visit and express yourself without fear.
