Man goes 'missing' in jail

A man who was reported missing over the weekend was found in jail in another parish, the police in St. Catherine say.

Last Saturday, the St. Catherine South police put out a missing persons report for 23-year-old Shawn Laird who was reportedly last seen about 7:00 a.m. at his home in Willowdene in the parish.

According to the police, Laird's friends and family members became concerned when they noticed he did not return home and filed a report complete with a photograph.

Ex-soldier

After the report was released however, the police in Hanover informed their counterparts in St Catherine that Laird was in their custody.

The Hanover police confirmed that Laird and an ex-soldier were both held during a raid in the parish on Saturday following the seizure of an illegal weapon.

According the the Constabulary Comm-unication Network, the police responded to calls from residents from a district in the parish claiming that strange men were seen there early Friday morning.

Upon arrival of the police, the men ran but were chased, caught and a 9mm pistol with eight rounds of ammunition seized.
