A spiritual fire razed the grounds of the UDC Beach in Montego Bay, Saturday night, as minister Goddy Goddy unleashed a bounty of blessings on a large crowd.
The 'Ghetto Priest', as he is known, was one of the guest artistes at the Tehila Pre-Genesis Gospel Fest - the teaser leading up to Genesis 2008. If you were one of those persons who didn't attend, sorry, you missed an excellent free show.
At 12:27 a.m. Goddy Goddy hit the stage, reeling off a litany of his original lyrics, which had a riveting effect on the audience.
Broad-hat people
Ten minutes into his performance, he paused: "Yuh have a likkle passa passa going around say Church blasts Goddy Goddy for Courts ads, people, is lie. Is two broad-hat people in spike heels say so...."
"Is the first time Courts ever use a gospel artiste in an ad campaign and it is the most successful one. I am signing between 300 and 600 posters per store and people are getting saved when they come to see me," he said.
He had a message for his critics: "God a bless me because mi have another ad fi buss wid Shark energy drink," he said.
DMG Gospel Music, Western Gospel Promotions and the Montego Bay Youth for Christ spearheaded the event. Barrington Sergeant, who is one of the organisers, said: "This is for the people who have been supporting Genesis over the years. St James is under pressure from criminal and social elements now, so we want people to come out and praise God."
The show started off with several upcoming acts showcasing their talents and vying for a spot on Genesis 2008. The performances of Cleon Clarke, Michael Chisholm, Romeo Bernard, Radical and Holy Youths and Zeal were all well received.
The trio Purity, from Maroon Town, St James, created a spiritual upset with their revival style of Master God a God. Sonia Rowe easily uplifted the crowd with One Day At A Time.
Pastor Lamoy Brown, Timmy T, New Generation, Adoracion, Joseph Scott and Marcia Daniels delivered well and blessed many souls.
Judith Gayle's performance came with a difference - professionalism and experience - as she effortlessly spread God's message across the venue with songs such as You're Gonna Smile my Child and The Anchor Holds.
