"As a dancer you ave to be versatile, sometimes yuh create a dance and a man have a similar dance, yuh just move to a next dance."
Those words come from Affrica Diamond, one of dancehall's most popular dancers. Diamond, who goes by the name Blazey Blazey in a recent interview, told The STAR that dancing is what keeps him going.
"I wanted to be an engineer, but my passion for dancing captivated my focus and it was just dancing, because that is what in my blood," said Diamond.
With new dances like 'Bousie Bounce' and 'Honourable', Diamond, who was also a part of the John Squad, says he is grateful for all his accomplishments in dancing, some of which have given him the opportunity to tour the world.
"Well, things could be better, for instance we are the creators of the dance 'Rock Away', the biggest dance out of Jamaica to date, and we did not get any recognition for it. If we did, we would be more globally known," said the former Kingston Technical student.
"I can't complain. Dancing made me into who I am today, it has allowed me to see the world and it will enable me to buy my house."
Still, Diamond, who helped orchestrate the dance 'Let Mi Loose', says he gathers inspiration from music's most popular personalities.
"First of all, big up to Mr Wacky, John Hype and Elephant Man who paved the way for us. Also, Bounty Killer, who has given a lot of youths the chance to eat a food and feed him family. 'Honourable' me say," said Diamond, in reference to his new dance.
Diamond sees himself getting involved in producing and singing, and hopes that the group will get continued promotion.
"If I should tell you say a just dancing I would do, that would be lame. We can't dance forever. Right now, I have an album working on with Shocking Vibes Record Label because that is where we link is," he added.
