GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC)
After losing to Barbados in their opening fixture and then having to share a point each with the United States in an abandoned game, defending champions Jamaica finally got a desired result with a nine-wicket wallop of Canada at Bourda yesterday.
When pacer and Man-of-the-Match Andrew Richardson reduced Canada to 104 all out off 36.5 overs nearly half an hour before the scheduled lunch break, a Jamaica victory was never in doubt, in their third round, WICB Cup one-day match.
Unbeaten half-century
And despite losing opener Horace Miller for 15 with the total on 27, Brenton Parchment clobbered an even, unbeaten half-century in an 81-run second wicket stand with Dave Bernard who scored an unbeaten 40 to propel Jamaica to 108 for one off 20.5 overs and guarantee two bonus points.
Parchment hit five fours and one six off 59 balls, while Bernard's innings contained a similar number of boundaries and a solitary six off 43 deliveries.
