STRIKER Navion Boyd yesterday scored twice in four minutes to fire Tivoli Gardens 2-1 past Boys' Town and into next Sunday's Digicel Premier League first-round final against league leaders Harbour View.
Starting their last match of the first-round match locked on 18 points with Tivoli, Boys' Town were pondering a worst-case scenario of a draw at home, which would have still put them into the bonus final on goal difference.
Struck at goalmouth
However, Boyd struck at goalmouth in the 61st and 65th minutes to put Tivoli 2-0 up before George Vernal netted Boys' Town's lone goal in the 67th.
Tivoli jumped to second with an important away win which not only fired them into the final, but also took them to 21 points, two behind leaders Harbour View, who lost 1-2 at Ferdie Neita Park to champions Portmore United.
Anthony Bennett found the winner for Portmore in stoppage time after Keith Kelly's 36th-minute goal cancelled Kevin Deerr's 31st-minute opener.
Portmore's home win moved them to 19 points and a spot up the standings to fourth, as St Georges, with whom they started the day locked on 16, took out Village 2-0 at Jarrett Park to claim third on goal difference after Damion Harwood netted in the 35th and 66th minutes.
Both Portmore and St Georges relegated Boys' Town to fifth, the Red Brigade remaining on 18 points, but well clear of a trio of teams on 12 - Reno, Village and Waterhouse.
Cellar-dwelling promoted teams
Cellar-dwelling promoted teams, Meadhaven and Rivoli, beat Reno and Arnett Gardens, respectively.
Devon Hodges scored early against sliding Arnett Gardens, booting in an eighth-minute goal for Rivoli's 1-0 win at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, jumping to 10 points and temporarily off the foot of the standings.
Sporting Central are last on nine points with a match in hand against seventh-placed Waterhouse, 12 points after their game at Brancourt was rained out.
Arnett were joined on 11 points by Meadhaven, who kept their nerves in the final six minutes for a 2-1 win against Reno at soggy Constant Spring.
Norman Bailey claimed Meadhaven's opening goal after his shot off Keammar Daley's corner in the third minute was turned in by a defender.
The homesters went 2-0 up in the 25th minute when Weston Forrest finished a second return pass from Daley, beating the advancing Reno goalie with a well-placed shot from inside the left side of the penalty box.
Reno should have pulled a goal back four minutes before the break but Gary McIntosh's penalty, after being pulled down by Roger Rodney, was well saved by Andrew Gibson moving to his left.
Both teams exhausted their benches in the second half, which was hit by rain, but it was Reno who looked better in the final six minutes after McIntosh made up for his saved penalty, leaving Rodney for dead and firing in from a most acute angle on the left side of the six-yard box.
