Unlawful wounding gets her medical bills

Crystal Young must be a worried woman after she was told she would have to pay the complainant's medical bills when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Young, who lives in the Corporate Area pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding.

The court was told that the complainant was in a bar when the accused entered and started throwing words at her.

"Your honour, she have in her mind seh mi and har baby father deh, mi tell har seh me and you man nuh deh. I was sitting in the bar when she was talking to a man and telling him how she hear seh a gal deh wid her man. She then started to fight me and I got cut at two different places in my head," the complainant said.

The accused told the court that she and the complainant were involved in a dispute and she used an object to hit her. However this was after the complainant had assaulted her.

After listening to the arguments, Resident Magistrate Glen Brown asked the man at the centre of the row to stand.

"Who is your girlfriend?" The man pointed at the accused saying she was his child's mother. The judge then said, "I guess you were fighting for your daily bread because the gentleman is taking care of you. You must not listen to hearsay ok."

Young is to reappear in court on November 21 with money to pay for the medical bills.
