Woman pleads guilty to wounding sister-in-law

Rochelle Douglas was in tears as she pleaded guilty to wounding her sister-in-law in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

However, although in tears, the story surrounding the incident was enough to cause laughter.

Allegations are that Douglas stabbed the complainant on her hand after they reportedly had an argument over Douglas's lifestyle.

Douglas told the court that her sister-in-law, who is the complainant, went to her daughter's school and told the teacher of her relationship with her boyfriend.

"Your Honour, she went to my daughter's school telling the teacher how mi and mi babyfather a cuss and fight in front of my daughter. My daughter told me how she was embarrassed, so I went to my sister-in-law and ask her why she carry my business to the school. She flare up and start cuss mi how ... and mi tell har seh if ... a because har bredda head go deh."

She added, "After we start cuss, mi feel a lick inna mi side and mi draw mi knife and stab after her." Douglas said she stabbed the complainant in self-defence and she had carried the knife because she knew what the complainant's family was capable of.

In giving her side of the story, the complainant told the court that the accused was lying because it was the child who had complained to the guidance counsellor at the school.

"Your Honour, the child is being affected by her behaviour. She is the one who approached me and called mi big ..... gal and then she start fight me. Your Honour, she did a go stab me inna mi head and because mi hold up mi hand, the stab ketch mi inna mi hand instead. She stab offa mi mother first, then mi brother, then me," she said.

Resident Magistrate Glen Brown ordered that a probation report be done and a fingerprint order made. Douglas is to reappear in court on December 18.
