A bail application offer was turned down for Kadian Rhooms and Dave Isaacs when they both appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer charges of possession, dealing, importing and conspiracy to import cocaine.
Allegations are that both accused were entering the island from Panama when their luggage was checked and 5.329kg of cocaine were found in their luggage.
Suitcase
The court was told that 2.7kg was found in Rhoom's suitcase while the remaining 2.6 kg was found in Isaacs' luggage. The court was also told that Isaacs admitted to placing the cocaine in Rhoom's suitcase without her knowledge.
Based on this information, a bail application was made by Rhoom's lawyer. "She was not aware of the contents in her luggage your honour, she has no previous convictions and she is seven months pregnant," said Rhoom's attorney.
Face the consequences
Isaacs' attorney also requested bail for his client on the grounds that his client is gainfully employed and married with two children. He added that Isaacs has been employed to RADA for 17 years and that he was given the package by a friend to take to Jamaica and he is willing to face the consequences.
Both Rhooms and Isaacs were remanded until December 4 when the matter will be mentioned again. They should also surrender their travel documents.
