A taxi driver accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl on Sunday was on Tuesday charged by the Old Harbour police in connection with the incident.
Charged with abduction, attempted rape and indecent assault is Cavel Elson, 22, of Freetown, Clarendon. Elston was held by the police on Sunday and was charged yesterday.
According to police reports, shortly after 8 a.m., four persons including the alleged victim, boarded a taxi which operates along the Old Harbour to Longville Park, Clarendon, route.
Alone with the driver
During the journey, the girl was said to have been left alone with the driver after the other persons reached their destinations.
Further reports are that the taxi driver then took her to a location in Bodles, St Catherine, where she was sexually assaulted.
During the incident, she managed to escape and alarmed residents who brought her to the police where she made a report. An operation was subsequently organised and the man picked up.
