The St Andrew North police say there has been a drop in the number of reported incidents of robbery and other crimes of that nature in Hughenden, St Andrew.
The police say this comes more than a week after the capture of four men who were allegedly a part of a criminal gang which was plundering the community.
The men were suspected to be behind a spate of robbery and break-in incidents which occurred in the community in recent weeks.
"There has been a reduction in robberies, rape, burglary and other crimes in the area," said Altermoth 'Parro' Campbell, deputy superintendent of police in charge of crime for the St. Andrew North police. He added that one of the four men has been positively identified as a known robber.
The identity of the men cannot be released however, as they are scheduled to face more identification parades after which they can be formally charged.
DSP Campbell had earlier vowed to dent the activities of criminal gangs operating within the division.
"We want to reassure the citizens that the police are working and doing whatever it takes to protect them ... We will be going all out against these gangs which are responsible for criminal acts committed in the division," DSP Campbell said.
