Chino is ma name

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

Chino - Ian Allen

"Him only buss because him ride offa di boss name, when me just a buss me never advertise me last name ... dem say we bread butter true we a di captain offspring--dem nuh know we struggles or we past pain."- Protected by Chino.

For any artiste being in the public's eye only tells half the story, and for STAR of the Month, Chino, being the son of a legendary reggae singer brings its ups and downs.

Quick to assume

Persons are quick to assume that the career of the children of Freddie McGregor is a 'sure thing'. However, as seen in the various songs from rising star Chino, it's obvious that he doesn't intend to ride off of his father's name, but off his own talent.

According to Chino, while people might have things to say about his rise in the business being centred around his musical heritage, for him it wasn't difficult to individualise himself from his father's legacy. "The direction I took, the way I broke into music was through my music, people hear me and seh yow that artiste bad," Chino explained.

His lyrics and flow

While his lyrics and flow are gaining him attention, there are still those that have bad things to say about the artiste and his brother- producer Stephen McGregor.

He explained, "The song Protected was inspired by an Internet forum ... those forums are just full up of idle people who have nuting to do and people saying we not good, we only buss caw we father name McGregor ... but that's typical, most children of entertainers get that. It's not a big deal, I don't pay attention to it 'cause I know if other artistes were in my shoes, they would probably ride off the name."

While it isn't always smooth sailing, Chino's natural love for music means that he'll continue putting out his daring songs.
