Dear Pastor,
I am a woman in my 30s. While I was on holidays in Jamaica this year, I met a man. He is so nice and seems to me to be a hard working man with his own business and house.
We are talking on the phone all the time and he says that he likes me and wants to get to know me better.
While I was in Jamaica we went out a couple of times. He was calm, quiet and did not feel the need to bombard me with the usual profanity that I get from Jamaican men when I visited the island in the past.
I'M SCARED
I'm scared; here in England, we hear so many stories about women, who go to Jamaica, have holiday romances, invite the men over and then there are problems.
The man either starts to cheat on them with other women, he uses them for their money, house, car, anything that he can get from her or he sends for his so-called cousin that turns out to be his baby mother. Pastor, I want to come back to Jamaica to see this man. I like him.
Do you believe that I could have a genuine long-distance relationship with this man? I am prepared to travel and see him and one day, would like for him to visit me here in England. I would like to get a Jamaican point of view on this matter.
Woman in Her 30s, London, England
Dear Woman in Her 30s,
Get to know this man very well. Don't be in a hurry to marry him. I am convinced that some relationships do not last because the couples did not get to know each other well, and they hastily got married.
This Jamaican man is wooing you and that is good. After all, you are finding out that not all Jamaican men are rough, tough and abusive. I repeat, get to know him well, so that when you take him to England, you wouldn't have to worry over him.
