Police presence, police presents

Jackass sey de worl' no level. Jackass sey im start see nuff police pon road a check check veekle now, like sey dem waan lack de shap afta tings done get wicked an outta 'an.

Jackass doesn't know about you, but over the past couple days he has seen more police (and Transport Authority personnel) on the road than he has seen in a long time.

We could be mischievous and say that it is a sure sign that Christmas is coming (you know, when the Xmas ads start the police come out to fill their stockings), but Jackass knows that this time it is a direct response to the wave of crime and abduction.

And Jackass appreciates what they are doing, because only a consistent police presence can beat back this tidal wave of criminality, especially in areas like Havendale which are open to through traffic, making it easy for criminals to keep watch on their intended prey.

Crimes themselves

But the world is not level at all, because while the police force as a whole is trying to make a difference now, many of their members have helped create the situation we are now facing. Not in the sense, necessarily, that they have committed crimes themselves (although there are those who believe that members of the JCF do commit crimes regularly and no one less than the commissioner of police has described the force as a 'cessspool'). No. It is a matter of neglect.

You see, while we have long been asking for a police presence, many of its members have been looking for presents.

Yeah man, Jackass knows that he is not the only person who has been asked "so whe yu can do fe yusself" by a police officer, or stopped by a patrol for no good reason for a dubious 'spotcheck'.

Heck, at one point you could not drive through New Kingston in the nights without seeing two or three patrol cars cruising Knuts-ford Boulevard. Just driving and stopping persons at random.

Police manpower

Now you tell Jackass that it takes all this police manpower to patrol one 800 metre stretch of road? And which gunman is going to drive down Trafalgar Road with his car loaded with weapons?

And this manpower would have made such a difference, just driving around at nights in residential communities. Not doing anything but driving, just keeping a presence, checking cars in the vicinity.

But the world is not level at all, too, because many people who are blaming the police (like Jackass?) have facilitated the waste of resources by making it profitable for the bad cops looking for presents when they should have been keeping a presence. And every time a policeman is bribed he concentrates on his real job, protecting and serving the public, a little less.

And the criminals get bolder and bolder.

Jackass sey de worl' no level. Jackass sey a people a mek police can look presents a road instead a hol a presence an a dat a mek de gunman dem get so bright up.
