A wrenching tale

Curtis Whynter, accused of using a wrench to stab a man in the side, was fined $5000 for the offence when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, yesterday.

Whynter, who was charged with unlawful wounding and assault at common law, pleaded guilty only to the first charge and explained to the court that he only stabbed the complainant while defending himself against an attack.

reports are that the accused man stabbed the complainant in the side with the tool and then chopped at him with a machete, Whynter told a different tale.

"Your honour him (complainant) went into my yard and sell my bicycle, while I wasn't there. So, I went to him to tell him to give mi the money and him start push badness to mi, saying him go shoot mi," the accused man said.

Whynter said that after the argument, the complainant used a weapon to stab him, and he, in turn, defended himself by stabbing the complainant with a wrench.

Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown ordered that Whynter pay a fine of $5000 or spend 30 days in jail.
