A good 'Pryce' for Chinese food

Andrew Pryce was given a reprieve until today when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court for defrauding yet another business.

Pryce appeared to answer a charge of larceny by trickery after he allegedly attempted to sell rice and cooking oil belonging to a Chinese businessman in downtown Kingston.

When the matter was mentioned on Friday, Pryce was remanded into custody.

However, he told the court prior to Resident Magistrate Glen Brown's ruling that he had made contact with his family and would have the money today. He was again remanded.

Rrice and oil

Allegations are that he went to the complainant and sold him a quantity of rice and cooking oil amounting to $69,000 and also charged him an additional $1,000 for delivery. The complainant allegedly paid for the goods, while the accused told him that he would return in a few days with the bill. However the accused never returned and other persons came with receipts claiming the items, which were handed over to the police.

However Pryce's attorney begged Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown to allow him to repay the complainant. But RM Brown said this was the fourth time Pryce appeared before him within the past year.

Ordered food

He recalled one of the cases was when the accused went to Jade Gardens where he ordered food for himself and his friends and ordered additional food for more people who were to come.

RM Brown said it was only when the management of the restaurant told him he had to pay for the food he had already before they prepared anymore that they discovered he had no money.

RM Brown said Pryce appeared before him before for renting a house that did not belong to him. In light of these offences, he was reluctant to believe that the accused would be able to repay the money, especially because in the past it took a while.
