Four arrested in gun seizure

The police on Tuesday arrested four persons in connection with the seizure of guns at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.

Police reports are that those arrested were taken into custody after they turned up at the cargo village area of the airport to collect the guns which were in a package shipped from Miami, Florida.

It is reported that in addition to the firearms, the package contained six magazines and 26 assorted rounds of ammunition, and was discovered last Friday by the Contraband Enforcement Team of the Customs Department, which then alerted the police.

A stake-out was then organised to see who would turn up for the contraband.

Yesterday, two men and two women turned up at the courier service to clear the package and were subsequently arrested. The police say they are unable to release the identities of the arrested persons, pending further investigations.
