Anchovy High thrill the judges

While some nine schools took to the stage during last week's segment of TVJ's All Together Sing, now in its fourth season, it was Anchovy High, Donald Quarrie High, Haile Selassie High and Clarendon College that had the judges swaying in favour of their tunes.

Just before Anchovy High offered their rendition, entitled I Woke Up This Morning, a female member of their choir fainted and had to be taken to TVJ'S hospitality room where she was attended to. A staff member later came back with news that she was doing fine and with that the choir went on to thrill the judges, Dennis Rushton, Michael-Sean Harris and Lileth Sewell.

Never getting bored

Donald Quarrie High's remix of Bob Marley's No Woman No Cry and One Love was a definite favourite in last week's audition. Rushton likened the school's performance to the experience of watching a good movie and never getting bored, while his fellow judges said it was favourably interesting.

A colourful Haile Selassie executed a vibrant 'reggaethon medley' including Sean Kingston's Mi Love, Etana's I Am Not Afraid and a twist of Richie Spices The Plane Land. The judges all agreed that the mix of songs made for an interesting listen with which they were well pleased.

Clarendon College had the hearts of the audience from as early as their rehearsal session of their cover of Hezekiah Walkers' God Blocked It. Sewell, in responding to the performance noted that she was 'on the verge of tears' having heard such a superb rendition of the song.

Rushton said that the song reminded him of the 'Expect More, Get More' used by a local telecommunications company, only that the choir gave him more than he expected. Harris, the third judge, echoed similar comments.

Other schools to have graced the stage at the audition were Rusea's High School singing Etana's I Am Not Afraid, Garvey Maceo High singing Something Inside So Strong (Michael Bolton), Bog Walk High with a mix of local folk songs and Ascot High with Brooklyn Tabernacle's Giving My Best.

St George's College's execution of I'm On The Battlefield was among the final items offered at the auditions. The judges responded with mix reviews, stating that while the performance was good the ending needed to have been tighter.
