Roderick Brown simply wanted to keep his relationship with one of his girlfriends a secret. That desire, however, turned into a disaster as he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, charged with rape and abduction.
The courtroom erupted in laughter after it was revealed that the accused man had three girlfriends in the same vicinity. Even his lawyer commented that he has been living in his community for 20 years and he was not able to achieve that feat.
'secret girlfriend'
Allegations in the matter are that on September 20, the complainant, Brown's 'secret girlfriend', was walking home when the accused held her hand and pulled her into his house and sexually assaulted her.
When Brown's attorney addressed the matter, he told the court that his client denies these allegations. "Your honour, let me tell you this, my client and the complainant have a long-standing relationship. This woman would visit him every day even when his baby mother, who is now incarcerated, was at home because the baby mother and her are friends."
He added that on the night of the alleged incident, his client had a long conversation about his other relationships and it seems as if the complainant was not satisfied with the conclusion.
The court was told that, it was a few days after that she reported the matter to the police saying she was raped and abducted. However, a medical report prepared by CISOCA showed no evidence of injury.
The complainant was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 with surety and he was warned that he should not come in contact with the complainant.
