GOOD CITIZEN carried topweight 60.5 kilos admirably when winning the CTL Imported Stakes by almost five lengths on September 20 and should blow away open allowance rivals in tomorrow's one-mile Owen Silvera Memorial.
The American-bred three-year-old filly went into overdrive inside the final half-furlong, sprinting away from PURE SILK for an easy win at 1400 metres.
She returned to work extremely fit last Sunday morning, breezing six furlongs in 1:13.0, the fastest prep for the event.
The classic-placed filly IT IS I and the American FIRST IN THE SAND are expected to keep GOOD CITIZEN honest.
IT IS I has not raced since narrowly beating MINISTEROFJUSTICE in the Lotto Classic. She has been freshened nicely for her more than four-month lay-up but does not have the pace of GOOD CITIZEN to threaten the American at a mile, more so with no matching speed in the event.
FIRST IN THE SAND renews
rivalry with GOOD CITIZEN on far better terms after finishing behind her in their last two meetings.
On both occasions, FIRST IN THE SAND was 13 lb heavier than GOOD CITIZEN. Now sitting only three pounds off FIRST IN THE SAND, GOOD CITIZEN has jumped 15 lb in the scale.
However, FIRST IN THE SAND has picked up five pounds and, although working well, still looks too heavy at 57.0 to chase and beat the speedy GOOD CITIZEN, who will carry 56.0.
Tomorrow seems a good day to take a shot at the Track Price Plus Pick-6, using GOOD CITIZEN along with two-year-old debutant MEELO; Wednesday's disqualified winner, NIKITIS; PAGEE PRINCESS back from an 11-month lay-up; GIRLOFMYDREAMS to go one better from Wednesday and ROMEZ down among claimers for the first time.
MEELO seems pretty forward for his debut, working alongside Wednesday's winner, VONALMIGHTY, in the mornings. He seems quite sharp and should get off the mark with little fuss.
NIKITIS won going away at 1100 metres on Wednesday but had her number taken down. The extended distance of 1400 metres should be right up her street with JAMMING being her main threat.
PAGEE PRINCESS hasn't raced since last November but is still head and shoulder above her seven rivals in the seventh at 1100 metres, having raced against far better runners last season.
GIRLOFMYDREAMS encouraging second-place run behind LITTLERICHBOY on Wednesday, after being slowly into stride, makes her hard to beat at 1200 metres in the eighth, where she will be closing too fast to be denied.
Close all bets with ROMEZ, who has been sent down in class among high-level claimers by trainer Richard Azan.
ROMEZ has looked good from the gate in the mornings, clocking 59.3 and 59.2, respectively, getting his last speed blow-out on Monday.
