Crash leaves one dead, two-year-old injured

A typical business day for a vendor turned deadly yesterday after a car suddenly slammed into the bus stop at which she plies her trade in Portmore, St Catherine, killing her.

A two-year-old infant was among two females who were also reportedly injured in the accident. The other was 18.

Dead is 39-year-old Andrea DeCambre of Daytona, Greater Portmore in the parish.

Reports are that about 11:30 a.m., a Toyota Corsa motor car, being driven by a teenager along the Braeton Parkway main road, suddenly lost control and subsequently crashed into a bus stop at the entrance of the Daytona community.

The teen, the infant and DeCambre were seriously injured and rushed to Spanish Town Hospital where DeCambre succumbed to her injuries while the other two were admitted.

The driver of the vehicle,19-year-old Dwight Knight of Ebanks Close, Newlands in the parish, was subsequently arrested and now faces a charge of manslaughter.

The Portmore police have commenced their investigations.
