Mexico aiming to reach final round with win over Jamaica

Mexico can reach the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2010 World Cup with a win or draw against Jamaica this Saturday.

Goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez hopes they grab the chance in Kingston.

"We have to qualify no matter how," Sanchez said yesterday. "I wish we can do it undefeated, but we have to make it happen as soon as possible."

Mexico has won all three of their matches to lead Group Two in the North and Central American region.

But it has won all three at home, and finally leaves the comfort of Azteca Stadium.

"We got the three wins here and now we have to try to get to the next round and then try to improve in the World Cup - we want to make history," Sanchez said.

He said Mexico expects an uneven field at the National Stadium, where more than 30,000 Jamaican fans will try to put the Mexicans off their game. Jamaica has a draw and two defeats in this qualifying round.

"We are probably going to go out and play in a field where we might need an oar or a 'chalupa' (boat)," Sanchez quipped. "But we need to adapt, the World Cup qualifiers are to be won, that's what really matters, beyond playing good or bad football."

The 34-year-old goalie, who has two World Cups under his belt, believes this Mexico team could be the best ever.

"We have a pretty good team, this might be the generation to get that big kick and do something great in the World Cup. We control the ball, we play in the same way whether at home or away, and Sven (Goran Eriksson, the manager) has 13 or 14 players in Europe.

"We are on our way to something big."
