STETHS, Lacovia in 0-0 stalemate

The big Zone E top-of-the-table clash between St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) and unbeaten Lacovia ended in a goalless draw in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup competition in Santa Cruz yesterday.

The draw means Lacovia, who beat STETHS 2-1 in their first-round encounter at Lacovia, are still zone leaders with 24 points. STETHS, who have another crucial derby against Munro tomorrow, are still in second place on 22 points.

STETHS dominated the first half but only have themselves to blame after failing to capitalise on some easy goal-scoring chances.

The tide switched in the second half in favour of Lacovia, and their coach Lance Morgan said after the game he was satisfied with his team's performance.

"It was a very good game by both teams. The first half belonged to STETHS - I thought they created some good opportunities but in the second half we totally dominated the game and I think we got three or four clear opportunities," Morgan said. "And looking at the game overall, I would say we could have won the game by three clear goals."

Coach of STETHS, Andrew Edwards, said he was disappointed that he didn't get the three points from the game.

"We are disappointed but we are thankful that we didn't lose the game either," Edwards said.

"I think we played well enough to have won the game from the first half, but we lost it in the second half, and a number of factors could have contributed to that."
