Yohan Blake
National 100 metres junior record holder, Yohan Blake, has joined Olympic triple gold medallist Usain Bolt at Racers Track Club under the guidance of head coach Glen Mills, who has been in high demand since Bolt's exploits in Beijing.
A source close to Mills' Racers Track Club said Blake will join Bolt, Kim Collins, the 2003 world 100m champion, Remaldo Rose and Emmanuel Callander, who ran the third leg on Trinidad and Tobago's silver medal team in Beijing. Jamaican Marvin Anderson will also join the group. Blake was also seen training with the group on Monday at the University of the West Indies.
Mills came to world prominence this summer after Bolt won the 100m and 200m in world record times of 9.69 and 19.30 seconds respectively. Bolt was also a member of Jamaica's champion sprint relay team, which set a world record of 37.10 seconds.
Packed bags
Blake, who was living at his former coach Danny Hawthorne's house, packed his bag and left on Monday, according to the source.
It it understood that the decision was communicated by Blake's parents to Hawthorne, who coached Blake to the
national junior record of 10.11 seconds.
However, Hawthorne said he is in the dark as to Blake's whereabouts.
"I don't know anything, nobody has said anything to me ... Yohan is the best person to ask about that," Hawthorne responded.
When asked about Blake's status at St Jago High, Hawthorne said as far as he knows "he was in school up to last week Friday".
Meanwhile, Anderson, a World Championships sprint relay silver
medallist, did not want to say much on his move to Mills' camp.
Quizzed on his arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport last week, Anderson stayed away from the question about who is going to coach him.
"I will be here in Jamaica training, that is the most important thing and that's all for now," said Anderson.
STAR Sports was told that Anderson chose Mills over Bertland Cameron, whom he worked with in recent times.
However, asked whether he would join Mills or stick with Cameron, Anderson only said: "You guys will hear in due time, but I will be in Jamaica training."
With these additions to Racers Track Club, local track and field fans are in for a mouth-watering 4x100m clash at Gibson Relay in February.
The battle is expected between Racers and MVP, which has the likes of Asafa Powell, Michael Frater and Nesta Carter, all members of Jamaica's world record breaking 4x100m team in Beijing.
