Four Beijing Olympians confirmed that they would participate in today's Olympic homecoming motorcade for Portmore athletes.
Portmore Olympians Dwight Thomas and André Wellington were first on the bill. However, hurdler Richard Phillips was added to the list. Sanjay Ayre, a 400m runner at the Olympics, has confirmed he will participate in the motorcade. Other top athletes hinted at attending the event, however, they had not confirmed their participation up to press time.
Three-time Olympian
Phillips, who competed in the 110m hurdles, and Thomas, a three-time Olympian, are formerly of Waterford Primary School. Phillips went on to Ardenne High, while Thomas ran for Calabar High School at the Boys' Championships.
André Wellington, formerly of Vaz Prep and Kingston College, lives in Bridgeview, Portmore.
Burger King and Spike Indus-tries are the major sponsors of the event, which will be two-fold: There will be an autograph signing and a small motorcade. Athletes will sign autographs at specific schools in the Sunshine City and at the Burger King branches in Braeton and the Portmore Mall.
The motorcade starts at Ascot High School and finishes at the Waterford Primary School where Thomas' athletic talent was discovered. There will be stops at Port Henderson Primary, Bridge-port High, Burger King, Braeton, and another for lunch at Burger King, Portmore Mall, before motoring to Waterford Primary.
Grand concert
There will be a grand concert at Waterford Primary with special guest artistes and performances by talented youths from Portmore. Apart from the autograph signing, there will be special present-ations to past Olympians George Kerr and Neville Myton.
