A policeman stands at the crash site where a Jamaica Defence Force jeep and a Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus collided on the Washington Boulevard, across from New Haven, St Andrew. - Norman Grindley
A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier died from injuries he sustained when the jeep in which he was travelling in collided with a bus yesterday. He has been identified as 32-year-old Capt Julius Gordon.
When THE STAR arrived at the scene, the two vehicles were still in the road. The front-end section of the jeep was totally destroyed, but there was little damage to the Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus it ran into.
The accident reportedly occurred shortly after 3 p.m. along Washington Boulevard, near Six Miles in St Andrew.
Police personnel on the scene told THE STAR that the jeep and the bus were travelling in opposite directions when the driver of the jeep lost control of the vehicle, sending it across an embankment and into the path of the oncoming bus, which was transporting passengers from Half-Way Tree to Spanish Town. None of the passengers were reported hurt.
When contacted last evening, the Constabulary Communication Networ confirmed that the soldier had died, but said no details of the accident could be released.
