Manchester set for goal spree

Fans should welcome with relish tomorrow's round of matches in Zone F of the ISSA /Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup following last weekend's problems when none of the three scheduled games were played.

Several thousand fans waited in vain in pouring rain well after 4 p.m. for the return clash between zone leaders Manchester High and Bellefield in Mandeville as referees assigned failed to turn up. The initial explanation from Manchester High Principal Jasford Gabriel was that the round was part of revised fixtures from ISSA which were not communicated to the local referee group. However, George Forbes disclosed to Star Sports yesterday that those fixtures were sent by email to the referees group as far back as September 25.

In control

As the only unbeaten team in Zone F, Manchester High should have things pretty much their way facing Cross Keys, a team they swamped 10-0 in the opening round. The game will be hosted at Manchester High since Cross Keys are yet to prepare their own venue.

In other matches, Bellefield face Belair in the feature match at Kirkvine, while deCarteret host Porus. Despite successive 3-1 victories over Belair and deCarteret, Manchester were surprisingly shut out by Porus in a 0-0 scoreline in their last game. Manchester, with 13 points, are still five clear of joint second place holders Belair and Bellefield. Coach Barry Watson has expressed concern over his team's shooting, but they should have no problems facing a team yet to earn a point.
