Don't be fooled by sweet talk

Dear Pastor,

I have been with a guy from 2003. We have a child, but he doesn't want to maintain our son. I left him because of this. He sings in my ear for me to take him back. Should I take him back, pastor?

W. M., St Andrew, Jamaica

Dear W. M.,

I suppose you mean by "take him back" is having him as your lover. I could not encourage you to do so. He is irresponsible and he is surely not a good man. A good man would have been supporting his child and would go the extra mile to please the mother of his child if they were having an intimate relationship.

What I would suggest you do is to take this man to the court for maintenance. He wants you to come back to him because by doing so he believes that you would not pressure him for child support. Don't be fooled by his sweet talk. Take him to court.

Pastor
