Coach chargeD with murder

A 23-year-old man who was in police custody for the killing of 21-year-old Dwayne Rose, of Seaview Gardens, Kingston 11, on January 6, 2007, was formally charged by detectives from the Major Investigations Task Force on Thursday.

Facing the capital charge is Shawn Walker, otherwise called 'Coach', a telephone technician from Seaview Gardens.

Reports are that about 8 p.m. on the night in question, Walker was with a group of men who attacked Rose and opened fire, killing him on the spot. Walker and his cronies were on the run, but was held in a police operation in the community three weeks ago.

He is to appear in the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court on October 8.

Teen dies from injuries

A 14-year-old youth died in hospital on Tuesday from injuries he sustained when he was hit by a motor car on the Porus main road, in Manchester on Sunday.

Dead is Dwayne Whyte of Clarke's Town in the parish.

Reports are that about 3:35 a.m., on Sunday, September 28, Whyte was in the process of crossing the road when he was hit by a Toyota Succeed motor car which did not stop. He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the Mandeville Hospital. He was later transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died about 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

murder suspect killed

Twenty-four-year-old Stephen Black of Enfield in St Mary, who was wanted for murder, was fatally shot during a gun battle with the police in that community on Thursday.

Reports are that about 1:30 p.m., the police received calls about shots being fired in the community. When the police arrived, they were reportedly greeted with gunfire. The fire was returned and Black was hit. He was taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other men escaped.

Investigators from the Annotto Bay Police Station say Black was wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Jimmy Richards of Enfield on June 30.

cabbie dies in crash

A taxi operator was killed yesterday when the car he was driving crashed into a JPS utility pole at Hampstead, Runaway Bay, St Ann.

He has been identified as Niorbi McCue, 26, of Salem, Runaway Bay.

Reports are that about 4:15 a.m., McCue was driving a Toyota Ipsum motor car along the Hampstead main road towards Salem. On reaching a section of the road, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. He was assisted to the St Ann's Bay Hospital where he died while being treated.

gunman claims one

A man was shot and killed by a gunman on Mountain View Avenue, Kingston 3, on Friday morning.

Dead is Pernell Bert, otherwise called 'Chargie', of Mountain View Avenue.

Reports are that shortly before 8 a.m., Bert was walking on Mountain View Avenue when a motor car drove up. A man armed with a gun alighted from the vehicle and immediately opened fire, hitting him. He died on the spot.
