GRACE MARIE is down in class for tomorrow afternoon's Jockey Club Stakes, dropping from Open to Overnight Allowance, and should outclass her seven rivals over 1400 metres.
Classic-placed last season, GRACE MARIE carried her form well this year with creditable performances in Open Allowance, finishing second in three straight races after convincingly putting away Overnight Allowance runners on April 16.
GRACE MARIE last raced on July 5, finishing six lengths sixth behind MUCHO GUSTO, GOOD CITIZEN and SKYWAY EXPRESS at 1200 metres.
However, she seems a bit suspect, coming off a near three-month lay-up, and has been missing from the exercise track.
What she has in her favour is a return to Barry Rambally's barn, where she raced as a two and three-year-old before moving to Lazel Khwalsingh, who also did well with her.
Rambally knows the four-year-old filly well and, despite her absence from the exercise track, should have her in good stead for a winning return.
If GRACE MARIE comes up short, Noel Ennevor's MR BLAIR, beaten by PRIME MINISTER at 2000 metres on September 20, should be the horse to beat.
MR BLAIR has been kept busy on the exercise track and was only denied a hat-trick by the distance last time out. Prior to that, he caught in-form MACHISMO at the wire over 1500 metres and out-classed the speedy I'M MAGIC at 1300 metres.
Track Price Plus Pick-6 players should look to PEACE BY PEACE in the second, LIMA'S BIGBAD-BOY in the fourth, DR BADOO in the seventh, MUCHO GUSTO in the eighth and MOUNT DIABLO in the ninth.
PEACE BY PEACE came out of hiding on September 10 but got her head knocked off by RIFLEMAN at 1800 metres. She continues to work well and her bullet workout of 1:17.0 for 1200 metres last Sunday morning makes her a winner against maidens at 1820 metres.
LIMA'S BIGBADBOY got the perfect workout for the 1000-metre straight fourth race, a long backstretch run at 1800 metres last Saturday, disputing the lead with the very fit ZUN ZUN into the lane in a six-furlong split of 1:12.2.
He's well drawn against the stands' side and should be too strong in the closing stages for the horses in mid-track.
MUCHO GUSTO's strong effort at 1000 metres straight, outfinished by MEDICAL REPORT, makes him the horse to beat at the distance in the eighth despite renewing rivalry with course specialist NASATOL, who has picked up seven pounds and will have to break from gate one.
EXPLOSIVE PEAK is also a course specialist but a two-month lay-up with ASKAWOMAN, RIG-MAROLE and BULLET TRAIN ready to keep her honest on the lead, she should fall prey to MUCHO GUSTO in the final half-furlong.
MOUNT DIABLO caught the eye when finishing a strong third to BACK POCKET and CHOSEN ONE on September 20, and a repeat performance should put him in the winners' enclosure at 1000 metres straight among non-winners-of-four.
