Police supt on manslaughter charge granted bail

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

spanish town

Deputy Superintendent Evan Martin-Daley charged with vehicular manslaughter, was granted $220,000 in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. She returns to court January 15 next year.

Allegations are that on July 15, about 7:45 a.m., Constable Mark Needham of the Motorise Patrol Division was riding his service motorcycle to work in Kingston.

Upon reaching near Matrix Ice, on the Spanish Town bypass, St. Catherine, the superintendent, who was driving a Suzuki Grand Vitara in the same direction, is accused of making a u-turn. The constable was hit from his motorcycle and crushed to death.

An investigation launched by the St Catherine North Traffic Division, resulted in the Director Of Public Prosecutions ruling that the superintendent be charged with Needham's death.
