JAMAICAN athletes continued their fine form overseas as Shericka Williams and Nesta Carter chalked up wins at the Daegu Colour Pre Championships Meet in South Korea yesterday.
After her surprise silver medal at the Beijing Olympics, Williams who has been having some great results over 200 metres since the Games won the half-lap event in 22.94 seconds just outlasting veteran Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of The Bahamas who had to settle for second place in 22.99 with American Carmeleta Jeter taking the bronze in 23.01.
Following his victory in the Shanghai last weekend, Michael Frater had to play second fiddle this time around to teammate Nesta Carter. Carter who did not compete in the individual 100 metres in Beijing won this event in 10.08 seconds as Frater made it a one-two for Jamaica by taking silver in 10.15 with Zimbabwe's Brian Dzingai taking bronze with a time of 10.18. Dzingai then returned to win the 200 metres in 20.28 seconds.
Jamaica's Danny McFarlane maintained his consistent form in the men's 400 metres hurdles. The Beijing fourth place finisher finished third in his pet event in 49.38 seconds. South African LJ Van Zyl won in 48.32 seconds with Olympic bronze medallist, American Bershawn Jackson, finishing second in 48.70 seconds.
The United States made a clean sweep in the women's 100 metres as Lauryn Williams won in 11.21 seconds, beating Torri Edwards into second place with 11.33 seconds, as Jeter took the bronze with a time of 11.35 seconds.
