The foul odour from a pig pen in the Corporate Area has led to a dispute between two neighbours.
Despite numerous complaints, the owner of the pigs has refused to get rid of them.
"Last year, my neighbour began to rear pigs in a sty at the back of his yard," the affected neighbour said.
"I told my neighbour that pigs should not be kept in the neighbourhood because it was against the law. Many days I cannot open my windows, because of the foul odour coming into my house.
"My neighbour does not wash the pig pen regularly and I am the one who is suffering. I am tired of speaking to him because he refuses to get rid of his pigs.
"What can I do in the circumstances?" he queried.
The Keeping of Aminals Act states that persons are restricted from keeping animals in certain areas unless exemption or a licence is granted by the competent authority which is the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) or the parish council.
Health hazard
The pigs have now become a health hazard and you should report the matter to the KSAC.
Section 7 of the Keeping of Animals Act states in part that whosoever shall allow any prohi-bited animal to be at large within a prohibited area or any prescribed animal to be at large within a restricted area shall be guilty of an offence.
A person convicted of such an offence can be fined or imprisoned.
The act also states that all prohi-bited animals shall be forfeited to the competent authority for disposal.
