Guardsman employees escape death

Three Guardsman employees narrowly escaped death yesterday when the car they were travelling in, was swept away by heavy waters in the Grants Pen gully in St Andrew.

The men were transporting money and other items when the incident happened.

The Grants Pen police say the men were crossing the gully, which had very little water in it at the time. A large volume of water suddenly engulfed the vehicle slamming it into the gully's wall. The water kept coming with a strong force and eventually began to wash the vehicle downstream.

One of the men, a security guard, allegedly shot out one of the windows and he and another were able to escape from the vehicle.

The other man, also a guard, remained trapped and was washed down stream until he was seen by residents and rescued. Two of the men were taken to hospital where they were treated.

Up to news time the vehicle had been located but it was not clear whether the money, which was in a vault in the car, was found or if guns belonging to the security guards that were also washed away in the water, were found.
