Accused phone thief pleads not guilty

A man accused of stealing a woman's phone pleaded not guilty when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

George Williams is charged with robbery with aggravation, however, he insists he did not do it.

Allegations are that the complainant was on her cellular phone in the Three Miles area when the accused walked up to her, pulled a knife and demanded her phone. She refused and he grabbed the phone. She did not let go of it and continued to fight until some people in the area came to her assistance.

Williams was later arrested by the police after a report was made.

Since Williams denied the allegations, Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown set the matter for trial for September 25. He was remanded until the trial date.
