WESTERN BUREAU:
An alleged altercation between two airport workers has landed one before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court and the other nursing a broken jaw.
Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is Kemar Hemmings of Sign, Irwin, in St James.
Medical report
His charges stem from an incident earlier this month in which he allegedly used a piece of board to break the complainant's left jawbone.
Hemmings had his station bail extended until October 22 and a condition added that he not interfere with the complainant. In the meantime, the court is awaiting the medical report to ascertain the seriousness of the complainant's injury.
Provoked
The court was told that on September 5, the complainant was working at the AJAS luggage chute at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay when Hemmings approached him and used a piece of board to slap him on the left side of his face, allegedly breaking his jawbone and causing an abrasion to his neck.
Hemmings told the court that he had a conversation with the complainant prior to the incident and alleges that during the conversation, the complainant provoked and threatened him.
However, Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry said that his explanation was no defence as the complainant had not attacked him.
