'Fantastic four' brought their 'A-game'

While some members of the remaining 'fantastic four' contestants in the Digicel Rising Stars competition brought their 'A-game' on Sunday night, the performance of crowd favourite Kahlil was less than average.

The contestants had to perform twice on Sunday, once doing a song from the year of their birth and then a 2008 hit. Kahlil was up first getting an instant response from the audience in the packed Courtleigh Auditorium with Stevie Wonder's 1985 hit Part Time Lover.

Kahlil performed some fancy footwork and had the audience laughing as one member did the moves made popular by the character 'Carlton', from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air series. However, the dance moves weren't enough to impress the judges. Anthony Miller berated them saying, "that was flat out bad ... you have to step it up next time." Nadine Sutherland, however, thought the performance was fun and powerful.

SLR chose Love Is A Wonderful Thing, Michael Bolton's 1991 hit. They wowed the audience with a performance that outshone last week's effort. Miller, who is usually harsh on the trio, praised their performance saying, "perfect for the range, much much better than Kahlil, I had resigned to sign you guys to Pulse."

K'Alee chose a sexy song in Tina Turner's 1984 hit, Private Dancer. The singer carried out the effect looking sexy in shorts.

K'Alee

Posing on a chair, K'Alee showed her star quality and Sutherland praised her smoky essence proclaiming, "you just captured that song, I loved it ... you oozed a lot of sex appeal." Miller thought K'Alee improved since 'dropping all the theatrics' and proclaimed the performance to be 'very grown up.'

Cameal Davis rocked the crowd with the 1985 song, Freeway of Love (Pink Cadillac) from powerhouse Aretha Franklyn. Davis was not shy in attacking the song vocally as she belted out the lyrics to an enthused audience.

Judge Clyde McKenzie proclaimed, "I think Anthony said you would come in second, remind me not to check him for the lotto cause things could change."

While some of the first performances exceeded expectations, the second set of performances, such as that given by Kahlil, fell flat.

Performing the remix to Usher's Love In the Club which features Assassin, the group pulled out all the antics, dancing, singing and deejaying. McKenzie and Miller however, were not impressed with the performance. Only Sutherland, who was dancing throughout the performance, enjoyed Kahlil's set.

SLR was also not on par in the second set with Rihanna's Don't Stop The Music. All three girls sang a part but none was well received. Sutherland commented, "you guys want to show off your talents individually but this song needed one voice, not three and the harmonies were only ok."

Performing a hit from her musical idol Keyshia Cole, K'Alee sang Heaven Sent but was berated by Miller who said, "fake, contrite, bad song, not good for your voice."

Cameal Davis

Cameal ended the night with a bang, looking hot in a pink dress while performing Jennifer Hudson's Spotlight. Cameal had the audience and crew dancing and clapping and Sutherland proclaimed Cameal's voice to be 'big'. Miller stated, "your voice is soaring, you sing upbeat dance songs, you blew Kahlil out of the water tonight."

This woman appears to be very passionate about the group Kahlil.
