MAN SHOT DEAD IN CLARENDON
A 34-year-old man was shot dead by unknown assailants on the Sevens Heights main road in Clarendon on Friday. Dead is Andrew Douglas of Sevens Heights. Police reports are that about 8:30 a.m., residents heard explosions and called the police. When they arrived, they found Douglas suffering from gunshot wounds on the roadway. He was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he died while being treated.
FIRE DESTROYS DWELLING
Fire of unknown origin destroyed a seven-apartment house at Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Thursday evening. Police reports are that about 8:40 p.m., a passer-by saw smoke coming from the building and called the fire brigade. One unit from the Spanish Town Fire Department extinguished the blaze. Loss is estimated at $4.6 million and it is not known if the house was insured.
WOULD-BE ROBBER SHOT,FIREARM SEIZED
A man, who attempted to rob a licensed firearm holder, was shot and injured at Grenada Way, New Kingston, on Thursday. A firearm was seized in the incident. Police have not released his name.
Police reports are that about 11:05 a.m., a licensed firearm holder was at a car park on Grenada Way when he was approached by a man, who demanded money. When his demand was not met, he brandished a handgun. The licensed firearm holder pulled his firearm and during an exchange of gunfire, the robber was hit. A Jericho 9mm pistol, with six rounds of ammunition, was taken from him and he was taken to hospital where he was admitted.
TEENAGER'S BODY FOUND IN RIVERTON
The body of a youth believed to be about 15 years old was found floating in water at the Riverton Landfill on Thursday. The body was clad in black shorts and a grey merino. According to police reports, about 9 a.m., residents saw the body and called the police. An on-the-spot post-mortem revealed that death was caused by drowning.
