After weeks in jail, Omar Fairweather's bail was reduced and he was allowed bail on his own surety to go and get the money to repay the woman who brought the case against him.
Fairweather appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, where Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown reduced the previous bail offer of $30,000 with surety to $10,000 with own surety.
Allegations are that he was given $250,000 worth of goods to sell for the complainant; however, he only turned over $25,000 and has not returned any of the goods.
However, Fairweather claimed that he owed the complainant a little over $100,000 and that because he was in the lock-up, he was unable to pay her back. He said if he was released he could repay the money before the Christmas season ended.
He also told the court that he was unable to take up the bail offer because he had no one to bail him, hence it was reduced. However, RM Brown made the new bail offer with a strict warning: "If you don't come back to court, I am gonna sentence you in your absence," he said.
Fairweather is to return to court on October 23 when the matter will again be mentioned.
