Spanish Town:
The woman charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition arising from the search of premises belonging to Senior Superintendent Harry Daley walked free from the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The court was told by the officers involved in the search of the premises that they had no evidence against 27-year-old Marsha Bryan.
Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar took the lawmen to task and emphasised that due process had not been followed by the investigators when they went to the premises on July 31. In dismissing the case, RM Errar told the police that they needed to put into action what they were taught at training school.
Police blunder
Bryan was defended by attorney Deborah Martin, who, in her application, told the court that the police had blundered and had trampled on the constitutional rights of her client.
Allegations were that during an operation in the Ebony Vale community, the police found the weapon. She was taken to another premises owned by Daley in another community and was asked to open several doors. Ten 12-gauge cartridges were found in a bedroom, along with a magazine.
She was subsequently charged and appeared in court on August 7, where she was granted bail.
