Spragga's son's shooting - Alleged witness posts video on website

A video has been posted on popular website, Youtube.com, by the alleged witness in the killing of Carlton Grant case, son of ace deejay Spragga Benz, who was killed by police last month.

The video of the witness, 17, who was previously reported in the media as being in hiding, fearing for his life after the traumatic experience on August 23, was uploaded to the site on September 5.

In the seven minutes and 34 seconds long video, the alleged witness recalls what happened on the night of the incident while responding to an off camera interviewer with a distorted voice. He noted that on the night in question, he and Carlton got a bicycle and was making their way to the Kingston waterfront when policemen travelling in a motor vehicle stopped them. They then asked them to dismount the bicycle with arms up before searching them.

"The one that was searching Carlton, I see that he was roughing him up and thing but Carlton kept his hand in the air. The other one that was searching me was doing the same," the alleged witness said in the video. "The one that searched Carlton, I see that he put his hand on the knapsack that Carlton was carrying and felt it. When I see him do that me hear him say to the next one that was searching me if him want buss some pop corn or sing some Merry Christmas, something related to shooting, then mi hear di next one say how you mean man."

Bawl out

The speaker continued: "Then mi hear like him select up him gun and thing, then after him select up him gun mi start bawl out and like mi see like him shot Carlton and Carlton drop pon the ground." The youngster said he was then instructed to run by the policemen.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Granville Gause, head of the Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI), said investigations in the case are progressing steadily. "I gave the commissioner an assurance that the matter will be fast tracked so the file can be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, given that we receive the ballistic reports within three weeks," he said. The post- mortem is set for September 11.

Gause said the policemen implicated in the matter have already been interviewed and the possibility of another session with them does exist. He said the BSI has also taken statements from the alleged witness. Attempts to confirm whether the policeman involved in the matter were removed from front-line duties, were unsuccessful.
