DJ Jigga and Cide have emerged as the next semi-finalists in the 2008 Heineken Green Synergy competition.
After last week's gruelling and intense battle between DJs Jigga and Khemist, it was announced, through a tally of votes, that Jigga had emerged victorious. Green Synergy host Anushka Walton made the announcement amid cheers and jubilation from the studio audience.
DJ Jigga will now move on to the semi final round where he will battle for the title of Heineken Green Synergy champion 2008. He joins DJs Rohan and Diamond as semi-finalists.
The battle between DJ Cide and DJ Shine for the last semi-final spot, began with DJ Cide. He started his segment with an intro from the Dark Knight movie and went directly into a hip hop mix of Cobra's Hey Hey which was well received.
Enthusiasm
DJ Shine came to the stage with enthusiasm as he played Mavado's Money Changer on the Rick Ross rhythm, then a Vybz Kartel dub plate that had the crowd in a frenzy.
Overall, the judges did not find the set to be striking, saying both players should show more skill on the turntables.
According to Keri-Ann McKenzie, brand manager for Heineken, the face-off was particularly entertaining to watch and shows that the Heineken Green Synergy competition encourages the selectors to better themselves each time they hit the stage.
Challenged
"With such useful feedback from our judges, the contestants are challenged to always come better the next time around. Their individual strengths and weaknesses are pointed out right away and it gives them time to work on improvement," she pointed out.
After the votes were tallied, DJ Cide was named as the winner of the last semi-final spot last Friday, prior to the first semi-final showdown between DJs Rohan and Diamond.
The choice, however lies with the fans, as to who will take a spot in the finals. You can vote from DJ Rohan by texting the number 1 to 444-6935 or 444-MYDJ. For DJ Diamond, text the number 6 to 444-6935 or 444-MYDJ.
The Heineken Green Synergy road shows will kick-off in Mandeville before moving to Junction, St Elizabeth, on Friday and Jungle. Negril, on Saturday.
The second semi-final round, between DJ Cide and DJ Jigga, gets under way Friday and the local finals of the competition are slated for October 4 in Kingston.
