Unexpected alibi puts off case

Byron McDaniel, Star Writer

manchester

An unexpected alibi by the lawyer of man accused of a double murder caused the postponement of the case and brought into question the veracity of the charge in the Mandeville Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Frank Williams was 24-year-old chef Marcus Levy, from Kingston, who is accused of the double murder of Arande Douglas, 24, and Garth Walters, 27, both from Manchester, who were fatally shot in the Mandeville market on Monday, August 4.

Williams had his application for bail denied when his attorney Shelly-Ann Beckford Louden informed the court that her client was in custody in Kingston on a shooting charge on the day the murder occurred in Mandeville.

RM Williams told the investigating officers in the case to get the facts and verify as to whether or not the accused was, in fact, in custody on the day of the offence. The accused was remanded until September 24.
