Empty ATM leaves robbers with no cash

While many Jamaicans were hoping that they were spared the wrath of Tropical Storm Gustav, thieves were busily trying to see how much cash they could get from the National Commercial Bank in Chapelton.

The Chapelton police say that about 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning when personnel went to remove ply boards used to secure the bank during Gustav, they discovered the ATM door was opened, locks removed and the machine opened.

The police who were summoned, further discovered that the thieves also gained entry to the bank, but were unsuccessful in removing or opening the vault. The thieves left without any cash because the ATM was empty.

The scene was processed by the Area 3 Scene of Crime Unit.
