Tough break for Tiff

Tiffany Thompson performs shortly before she was eliminated from last Saturday's results show.

Though lucky on a previous occasion, Tiffany Thompson sadly left the Digicel Rising Stars competition after being in the bottom two at the results show held at the TVJ studio last Saturday night.

Tiffany, who shared the bottom-two position with Secret Melodies, entered the competition on August 12 as the producer's pick. But by the following results show, on August 15, she was in the bottom two alongside Wayne Williams, whom she defeated.

When it was announced that Secret Melodies and Tiffany were at the bottom, the judges did not seem surprised. Judge Clyde McKenzie said Tiffany's previous performance was weak but he thought Secret Melodies did well. Nadine Sutherland said Secret Melodies improved their performance at the last live show, while Tiffany "had potential but potential does not win competitions, it's the performance." As usual, Anthony Miller was unmoved and declared Kahlil and Cameal Davis as his top two to win the competition.

Nonetheless, Secret Melodies gave a decent rendition of Beres Hammond's Rock Away and Can You Play Some More.

Tiffany was expressive and melodious when she sang Christopher Martin's Take My Wings. She sang so hard that her voice was hoarse when she had to speak after performing.

In the end, she only won the favour of Nadine, who said, "Tiffany got a lot of knocks and she rebounded. She was better tonight." However, Anthony and Clyde were not moved and chose Secret Melodies because the group picked better songs.

Though defeated, Tiffany was grateful for the opportunity she got to perform at the live show.

"It was great. I didn't think I would be here in the first place," she said, while noting that she will be finishing sixth form in the upcoming school year.

Secret Melodies joined the other safe contestants, including Kahlil, K'Alee, Cameal Davis, SLR and Lashana.

Yendi Phillipps, host of the Digicel Rising Stars competition, was definitely pleased about something during last Saturday's results show.
